METAL ART can be
traced back almost as far as civilization itself, beginning with
the hammering out of objects for everyday life,
such as cups and bowls.
Slowly, as man developed, so did
his appreciation of art, and metal art began
taking on design, in the form of decorative
pieces and jewellery.
Over the
years, there have been many prominent metal artists, sometimes
referred to as "blacksmith artists," and now the
name of NIKOS KALAMARAS
has been added to the top of that list.
It's been said that one man's art is another man's junk, and that
statement is
certainly true when discussing the works of Mr.
Kalamaras, as many of his most
famous pieces have been created from old auto
parts and abandoned
appliances salvaged from scrape heaps throughout
his homeland of
Crete,
Greece.
However, as we
all know, art, in any form or shape, is the emotional equivalent
of thought, where the artist uses his medium to
convey not just an image or idea,
but also a feeling seen from his perspective. In
metal art, one of the most versatile
of the arts, this perspective is even more
pronounced, since there are various
types of metals and even more ways to be creative
with them.
As you scroll through this web
site, you'll see these words come true through the
works of NIKOS KALAMARAS.
